TOEFL Exam 2022

The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is an actual test many prospective students must take to be accepted into colleges worldwide. The TOEFL is also a great way to prove English language skills when applying for jobs or programs requiring knowledge of English.

The TOEFL also undergoes periodic updates, just as the GRE does. TOEFL was revised almost 20 years after its last update to make it more accessible and user-friendly.

The Test of English as a Foreign Language exam — or simply referred to as the TOEFL — is administered in two formats:

  1. The Internet Based test (IBT)
  2. The paper-based test (PBT)

Both versions have their own advantages, but only one is accessible at any given time, depending on your location.

Differences Between PBT and IBT

PBT and iBT differ significantly in their structures. In the iBT, speaking skills are evaluated with a separate section, while in the PBT, they are not evaluated at all.

iBT's writing section consists of two tasks in 60 minutes, twice as long as PBT's Test of Written English (TWE), and in addition, the iBT measures more writing skills than the PBT's essay.

Generally, the PBT is a much more limited assessment as the IBT was designed to improve on the PBT; this is obvious.

When is the TOEFL test?

The TOEFL test is offered at hundreds of nationwide testing centers on different dates. The exact dates vary each year, so you will need to refer to the official website to see what dates the test is available in your country.

The test takes place almost every month. It is administered more than 50 times a year, and you can also check the availability of test dates in your city by clicking on the “Find a Test Center” button.

How to register for the TOEFL test?

The process of registering for the TOEFL test varies depending on the format (IBT or PBT) and the location of the test. To register for either format, you need to first log in to your account and select the type of test you wish to take. After that, you need to follow the instructions provided on the site to finish the registration.

Exam TOEFL Fee 2022

India's TOEFL Exam Fee 2022: The TOEFL exam cost varies depending on the nation. In India, the TOEFL exam costs US$189, or Rs. 15,000. In addition, candidates must pay extra for additional services, including score reviews, exam rescheduling, and late registration. The prices for various services are listed below.

Cancellation/Rescheduling Fee for the TOEFL

Candidates who have scheduled test dates and wish to reschedule or cancel it must do so four full days before the scheduled test date. It is NOT permissible to reschedule exams by mail, email, or in person at the testing facility. Candidates must either phone their Regional Registration Center and provide details for rescheduling.

Passing Score for TOEFL

The TOEFL does not have a passing score since each university sets its requirements (or passing score).

The minimum score for each section of the TOEFL and the entire test is given below: TOEFL IBT Score: A minimum score of 63 points is usually required.

TOEFL Paper-and-Pencil Score: A minimum score of  213 points is normally required.

The requirements to take these tests can be slightly different depending on where you are taking the test. Always check the ETS website registration instructions to ensure you are eligible to take the test.
