How long is the GMAT, and what are the sections?
The GMAT is administered five times annually: in February, April, June, October, and December.
The test lasts three and 45 minutes, with a one-hour break in the middle.
The exam consists of four sections: The Analytical Writing Assessment (AWA) - is not a separate section, but rather an integrated section that you complete towards the end of the GMAT.
The AWA is scored separately from the other three sections, but all other sections are evaluated by a computer, so you do not receive a paper-based score report. The AWA is evaluated by an examiner, but all other sections are computer-evaluated.
GRE test length and sections
The GRE General Test can be taken at any time of the year. It is also computer-based.
The test lasts for three hours and 45 minutes, with a 10-minute break in the middle.
The GRE consists of two sections: Analytical Writing - which contains two separately timed sections. Verbal Reasoning and Quantitative Ability have two sections each.
Verbal Questions: These questions require you to use your vocabulary, reading comprehension, and grammar skills to answer questions that may contain various subject matter.
Quantitative Questions: These questions test your quantitative skills by requiring you to calculate and interpret numerical data.
The time allowed for each section varies slightly from year to year but should not exceed 1 hour.
GMAT or GRE, which is easy?
Your academic talents, temperament, and testing preferences will determine which test you will find simpler.
Comparatively speaking, the GRE's quantitative component is usually simpler than the GMAT's (and you get to use a calculator). While the GMAT includes more logical reasoning problems, the GRE portion often contains more geometry questions.
